Environmental Stewardship

The statistics speak for themselves: paper products make up 40% and plastics make up 8% of all trash in our landfills. Every ton of paper recycled saves more than 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space. These materials are a large part of our business, and we are very aware of the environmental footprint our business can leave.

Here at Labrix, we are committed to making a difference in the health of the patients we serve. We also want to make a healthy difference in the planet we all share. Though it can be hard to imagine that just a few people can make a big impact on our environment, we are doing just that by the creation of an environmentally friendly workplace. Here are a few examples of small and simple ways we help reduce waste and take care of our planet:

• The cardboard used in Labrix kits is purchased from a Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) chain of custody holder, and these kits can be reused multiple times before needing to be recycled.
• Each kit contains a reusable insulated cooler for sample stability. These coolers are inspected for safety and sanitation and reused as many times as possible.
• We offer “paperless" test results online

Our local electric company performed an energy audit to help us identify areas of potential savings.
